Reporting to the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and the Deputy Provost for Academic Affairs, the Assistant Vice Provost for Faculty Success and Recognition will work closely with the Emory University academic leadership team and associate deans for faculty to lead a new office to serve as the locus of activity for cultivating, promoting and nominating faculty for distinguished awards, honors and prestigious fellowships. The primary function of the office will be to support faculty success through talent discovery and development, maximizing opportunities, sharing expertise, and expanding and enhancing access to the nominations process, including strategic leveraging of nomination and application activities to develop profiles for more competitive and prestigious recognition and the opportunities for research and scholarly activity they bring.

The Assistant Vice Provost will be a highly collaborative partner both at Emory and within the profession more broadly in an office that is entirely faculty-centric, connected and continuously focused on faculty development so that it is cultivating opportunities, creating pipeline infrastructure, and enabling faculty to develop the appropriate profiles for success throughout the professional lifecycle.

Planned outcomes will include the development of institutional pathways across disciplines, schools, and activities and the advancement of a supportive environment and culture of nomination.

Key activities include:

  • Develop and promote knowledge of available awards and recognition by discipline and across disciplines.

  • Identify potential nominees. Devise pipelines for nominees.

  • Facilitate nominations through understanding the nomination processes, and coordinate preparation of nomination materials.

  • Collect honors and awards profiles of highly recognized faculty in order to trace pathways to highly prestigious awards.

  • Promote a culture of nominating faculty for honors throughout the university community.

  • Convene selection and nomination panels. Meet with departments, awards committee members, individual faculty members, and others to discuss opportunities and assist with nominations.

  • Perform related responsibilities as required.


A Ph.D. or terminal degree (preferably in a field offered by Emory University) and five years of proven experience with faculty development, including research development, at an institution of similar complexity, diversity, and caliber. Familiarity with the various academies, foundations, and national awards and prizes is essential.
