Position Summary
Under limited direction, plan, organize and facilitate the preparation of policies, procedures, reports, strategic plans, and other external and internal projects or events to advance the University's mission. Serve as Chief of Staff and provide administrative oversight to a limited number of programs (Institutional Research, KENW, and Communication Services).

Requirements:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee university governance; review and update University policies and procedures.

  • Provide administrative oversight for Communication Services, Institutional Research, KENW, and the Prueba de Español contract.

  • Collaborate with the statewide Accountability Work Group and the Governmental Relations Group.

  • Assist with submissions of research and public service projects, facilities master plan, Government Obligation Bond/capital projects, and state or federal accountability reports, as directed.

  • Facilitate communication and collaboration within and across Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, and the academic departments to enable and implement strategic planning.

  • VP level approver for personnel and budget decisions for units.

  • Serve as the official university records liaison officer.

  • As Chief of Staff, develop communications for the Chancellor.

  • Coordinate the execution of strategic initiatives.

  • Evaluate and approve expenditures for a number of programs (KENW, Institutional Research, and Communication Services) as necessary. 

  • Handle the day-to-day management of issues and ensure streamlined activities within the organization to allow the Chancellor to focus on other matters.

  • Contribute to the long-term success of the University.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements:
A master's degree and a minimum of five years of experience directly related to the duties specified is required. Administrative or executive work for a large and complex educational program is preferred. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community

  • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials

  • Knowledge of the goals, mission, objectives, structure and operations of a public university

  • Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management

  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures

  • Strategic planning skills; ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals

  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments 

  • Proven track record of effectively interacting with senior management

  • Ability to work strategically and collaboratively across departments and units

  • Knowledge of strategic issues and trends with current and/or potential impact on university advancement

  • Employee development and performance management skills and ability to foster a cooperative work environment

Working Conditions:

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed during normal work hours but will require evening and weekend hours

  • Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
