Talladega College welcomes applications and nominations for the position of Associate Vice President, Academic Affairs. The Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs supports the Provost in strategically leading and managing all aspects of the College’s academic areas. This includes, but is not limited to academic policies, program development, assessment of student learning/institutional effectiveness, faculty development, academic initiatives, and resource development.

The AVPAA helps to lead collaborative efforts to advance the University’s Strategic Plan with accreditation agencies, business and industry, community-based organizations, educational partners, governmental agencies, and internal constituencies. The AVPAA will work directly with the Provost, academic deans, administrators, and faculty and have responsibilities that span all University locations.


  • Contribute to the creation and oversight of a comprehensive academic affairs strategy that is aligned with the University’s strategic plan

  • Facilitate the planning, organization, implementation, tracking, and archiving of complex academic processes, projects, and reporting

  • Oversee the College’s Institutional Effectiveness System efforts for all direct report areas

  • Work collaboratively with Enrollment Management to manage the Dual Credit/Early High School programs

  • Provide leadership for other external accreditation efforts (AACSB, CSWE, CIPE, etc.) and work with appropriate program managers to ensure compliance and timely reporting

  • Monitor policies and procedures to ensure clarity and compliance for direct report areas

  • Work closely with the Provost and Deans in preparing and prioritizing budget needs based on available revenue and resources

  • Monitor program success and viability with respect to enrollment, retention, graduation rates, and student success; make marketing and recruitment recommendations to Deans.

  • Assist in determining and developing new and innovative education opportunities and other relevant program initiatives

  • Assure new programs are properly reviewed and approved by appropriate internal and external stakeholders Contribute to the creation of external partnerships with local industry and educational entities

  • Maintain the Academic Program Review System

  • Assist with oversight of the College’s Core Curriculum and its Assessment

  • Support the assurance of academic program quality, teaching, research, and service excellence

  • Engage in the creation of measurable and monitored faculty expectations and evaluations that align with the strategic plans of the college

  • Assist in the creation and implementation of effective faculty professional development opportunities and initiatives

  • Assist with the Development of Academic Affairs and College Policies

  • Handle all student issues and/or parent inquiries and petitions

  • Assist with the oversight Academic Affairs’ Communications and Webpage

  • Maintain professional affiliations and training related to functional duties (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), etc.)

  • Represent the Provost and Academic Affairs on academic standing committees and selected committee meetings, ceremonial functions, and other meetings as needed

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Provost

SCHEDULE: This is a fulltime exempt position and expected work schedule is Monday through Friday and occasional weekends for special programs and events. The individual holding this position will need to be available early mornings, evenings and weekends to meet the needs of the office.


  • Earned terminal degree required from a regionally accredited institution

  • Excellent administrative, oral and written communication and interpersonal skills; proficiency in computer software applications to support the work of the department

  • Ability to utilize appropriate data analysis and statistical technique to analyze assessment and institutional data

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment to meet established goals

  • Ability to attend to detail and ensure accuracy of data and reports

  • Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, deans, faculty, staff, and students to ensure the advancement of strategic planning, student learning outcomes, institutional accreditation, and mission fulfillment

  • Demonstrated record of academic or professional accomplishment
