SUMMARY/GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

As the President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the corporation, the CEO is responsible for collaborating with the Board of Directors in developing the corporation’s strategic directives, implementing strategy and managing the overall portfolio growth and profitability of the corporation. Primary responsibilities include allocation of financial and other corporate resources to achieve short and long-term goals and providing high level oversight of the business operations and holding company performance.

The CEO should be visionary, intellectually agile, innovative, politically savvy, have high ethical values. The CEO will ensure the company maintains high social responsibility where we do business. The CEO should champion the corporate culture and be able to establish and maintain the corporation's relationships with other Native Corporations, Tribes, regional and state-wide community, social and political organizations, local, state and federal agencies and public bodies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Works with the Chairman and Board of Directors to establish the vision and strategy of the organization.
  • Develops strategic and operational plans and budgets, including an annual budget, with methods to track, measure and report performance results against established goals.
  • Assesses the Corporation's investments, allocation, and use of capital, tax strategies, and use of credit.
  • Collaborates with the executive management team to develop policies to coordinate functions among divisions and departments, and to establish responsibilities and procedures for meeting corporate objectives.
  • Actively stays appraised of organizational operations and project developments.
  • Works with the Community Value Centers (CVC) leader and CVC team to support the key initiatives and execute the priorities and plans for advancing the 100-year vision for intergenerational prosperity.
  • Assesses internal controls to identify deviation from approved corporate plans and provides for the periodic comparison of performance and results against established objectives.
  • Recommends to the Board of Directors any changes to the organizational structure as appropriate.
  • Builds a work culture that promotes safety, innovation, best-in-class customer service and positive impacts to communities.
  • Leads, directs and motivates the team to achieve at the highest level. Collaborates with the team and respects their contributions, efforts and knowledge of their area of expertise. Assists with recruitment, development and retention of a strong executive team.
  • Negotiates contracts and other agreements on behalf of the corporation.
  • Maintains awareness of competitive market acquisition, start-up, and development of new ventures; and transitioning new ventures to the operations stage.
  • Plans and develops industrial, labor, and public relations policies designed to improve the corporation's image with customers, employees, shareholders, and the public.
  • Implements the Board's local, state and federal political agenda, strategy and public relations. Oversees the lobbying efforts on behalf of the organization.
  • Assists the Chairman, as requested, in developing the agenda and contents for meetings of the Board of Directors, in representing the Corporation in communications with shareholders
  • Maintains regular contact and communications with the Chairman between meetings of the Board of Directors.
  • Attends all meetings of the Board of Directors, makes quarterly reports to the Board, and make recommendations to the Board on matters requiring Board action.
  • Assures formulation of financial programs to provide funding for new or continuing operations to maximize return on investment, and to increase profitability.
  • Perform as a high level, goal oriented, and self-managed individual.
  • Performs such other duties as authorized or directed by the Chairman and Board of Directors.

ACCOUNTABLE FOR:

  • Upholding the image of CAC, communicating the position of the Corporation to the shareholders at shareholder informational meetings and the Annual Meeting of Shareholders.
  • Meeting company objectives for diversification, growth, profitability, shareholder development, lands, and culture.
  • Meeting company objectives for shareholder hire, development and advancement.
  • Communicating in a timely, thorough, and effective manner to the Board of Directors regarding the condition and position of the Corporation.
  • Fostering a respectful, collaborative team atmosphere within the executive team and throughout the organization.
  • Supporting a safe work environment through support of regulatory compliance and in-house programs.
  • Projecting and operating within a cost-effective budget.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Mandatory:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, Finance or related field from an accredited university.
  • Fifteen (15) years of progressive experience in a C-level position overseeing strategy, operations, business development, and finance in a large, diverse operating company.
  • Acceptable background and credit check.

Knowledge Of:

  • The Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act and a historical understanding of the Chugach region.
  • The competitive market in and outside of Alaska.
  • SBA 8a program and government contracting.
  • Financial modeling, revenue forecasting, strategic management, marketing/business development and project management.
  • Change management principles and best practices.
  • Well-rounded organizational knowledge; understands the mission and strategic plans, the structure, and culture as well as the regulatory, industry, and economic issues affecting the organization.

Ability To:

  • Landscape expansion opportunities and industry developments.
  • Proactively assess risks to the company and propose strategies to minimize risk.
  • Lead the Corporation by instilling confidence in the Board of Directors, the leadership team, and the operating company staff.

Preferred:

  • Voting shareholder or descendant of Chugach Alaska Corporation.
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Finance or related field from an accredited university.
  • Previous CEO experience.
  • Experience working in a multi-cultural environment, particularly with an Alaska Native Corporation.
