The AVP of Student Affairs plans and implements a comprehensive student engagement program for all students, traditional undergraduate and graduate on-campus programs in Henniker and Manchester, and for selected online and off campus programs, which is well integrated with the mission and core values of New England College. The AVP is responsible for Student Affairs including Residential Life and Housing, Student Involvement, Diversity and Inclusion, and the Wellness Center. The AVP is a leader in student retention initiatives, working closely with Academic Affairs, Athletics, and Admissions.

 

Essential Duties Summary
  • Coordinate the College’s work in Student Development services for a consistency of vision and approaches and coordinate a shared student-centered philosophy with Pathways Academic Success Services;
  • Ensure that all extra-curricular programs and events meet high standards of excellence and quality regarding enhancing culture, civic engagement, and recreation;
  • Provide leadership in and be responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies and regulations pertaining to student life, especially those related to alcohol and drug usage, student conduct and student residences, and Title IX compliance, and modify policies as developments in higher education occur;
  • Represent the college in working with a wide range of individuals and organizations outside of the college, including parents, community members, local and state government and law enforcement, and representatives of other institutions;
  • Working with the AVP of Advancement, develop, implement, and asses a vibrant parent program/organization at NEC; coordinate with Alumni Affairs on various programs and events that include alumni, parents, and students;
  • Ensure successful student activities for non-traditional students on campus and in off-campus locations, including select online programs;
  • Capture and maintain relevant data relating to student life and analyze effectiveness of all student development programs, particularly as they relate to improved retention;
  • Working with Academic Affairs, and with other key divisions at the College, maintain innovative and effective retention projects aimed at improving retention and attaining ambitious but reasonable retention goals;
  • Regularly attend student events and community activities and have a strong presence on campus – particularly with the student body;
  • Administer the student judicial system, student disciplinary procedures, and the code of conduct;
  • Working with the Senior Vice President and CFO develop multi-year housing occupancy strategy and plans to be used in campus-wide revenue goals, and consistently use data to make informed and well-reasoned decisions that have a positive impact on retention;
  • Working with Academic Affairs, identify and develop new initiatives for student orientation, first-year student programs, engagement and culture;
  • Representing Student Affairs in compliance reporting for regional accreditation and other reports as directed by the Vice President of Acdemic Affairs.

 

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in higher education, business, or related field (Doctorate preferred);

5+ years of progressive experience in higher education serving in multiple areas within the division;

Experience in Student Development and Academic areas;

Five (5) years supervisory experience;

Budget creation and management;

Excellent interpersonal, public speaking and writing skills;

Data-driven decision-making approach;

Knowledge of Banner, Argos, Advocacy report writing and MS Office products highly desirable;

Knowledge of FERPA,
and Title IX and regional accreditation;

Proficient in assessment processes.
