11 MONTHS / 40 HOURS PER WEEK POSITION, MONDAY - FRIDAY

Under the direction of the Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences and in collaboration with Academic Success Center (ASC) and Basecamp Headquarters (HQ) leadership, support students’ academic success by providing general learning support via one-on-one tutoring, academic coaching, and facilitating active learning workshops. Working within the Academic Success Center, the Specialist will also play a key role ASC initiatives and services such as Early-Alert and test proctoring; the Specialist will work within the ASC team to identify and meet student needs, staff the front desk, and maintain records, and assess ASC services.

 

Key Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Case manage and coach students to avoid obstacles, navigate challenges, and gain confidence to meet educational goals. Assist students to create college study game plans. Support students in acclimating to the college environment and faculty expectations. Connect students to on and off campus resources to enhance students’ academic success, personal development, and career readiness. Promote accountability by regularly following up with students to assess game plan progress and to create and achieve new goals. Work within a team of faculty and staff to identify students in need of academic support, to create individualized and holistic plans for success for students, and to report on student progress.
  • Provide individual and group tutoring assistance to students, including, but not limited to, subject specific content, study skills, and college success strategies.
  • Facilitate study/life skills workshops via one-on-one, small team, and classroom presentations.
  • Work within a team to implement ASC initiatives and services.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Associates degree in a related discipline, AND
  • Previous experience in academic coaching, academic advising, tutoring, teaching, counseling, or another area related to supporting student success in an educational setting.
  • Sensitivity to, and understanding and appreciation of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, colleagues, other on-campus groups, off-campus community groups and educational partners.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline.
  • Experience working within the California Community College system
  • Commitment to community college education as demonstrated in personal and/or professional experience.
  • Experience working with students who face learning challenges.

Selection Process:
After the preliminary screening, selected candidates will be invited to the campus for an initial interview with the Search Committee. Videoconference interviews (in lieu of an in-person initial interview) will be offered. Candidates to be interviewed will be selected from applicants who most closely meet the minimum and desired qualifications. Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview. The Search Committee will recommend finalists to the Superintendent/President for a final interview.

Conditions of Employment:
