Primary Accountabilities:

Capper Foundation’s (Capper) mission is to build abilities and empower people of all ages living with disabilities. The President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is the leader, goodwill ambassador and public face and voice of this nonprofit disability services organization. The culture of the organization is about people: skilled, dedicated and caring staff who work every day to help persons with disabilities be the best version of themselves. Teamwork makes the dream work and our Capper Team includes staff, volunteers, donors, persons served and their families who all work together. Capper has been providing high quality services for over 100 years and requires a strong leader to oversee all aspects of the organization, make decisions, communicate clearly, make the mission and money work, empower excellence throughout the organization, and carry out Capper’s mission every day.

Major Duties:

  • Provides leadership oversight of all aspects of the organization.
  • Creates a vision of success and sets the cultural tone of the organization.
  • Promotes the Mission, Vision and Strategies of the organization.
  • Serves as the Goodwill Ambassador and the public face and voice of the organization.
  • Develops a positive working relationship with the Board Chair, the Senior Management Team and all Trustees and has regular communication with them.
  • Oversees Marketing, Community Engagement and Resource Development.
  • Oversees Structure, Fiscal Management and Operations Management.
  • Oversees all Programs & Services.
  • Develops the Capper strategic plan and as well as operational plans.
  • Develops the annual Capper budget.
  • Monitors the impact and performance of the organization and reports regularly on these to the staff, the Board and the public.
  • Provides collaborative fundraising leadership to the board and staff responsible for donor and community support of the organization.
  • Identifies, assesses, and informs Senior Management, the Executive Committee, and Board of internal and external issues that affect Capper, particularly as they impact the fiscal position of the organization.
  • Makes sure that the operation of Capper meets or exceeds the expectations of the Board.
  • Maintains internal and external transparency; communicates clearly and concisely.
  • Embraces technological advances to further the work of Capper.
  • Plans with the Board and implements initiatives for the expansion of resources.
  • Maintains official records of Capper to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
  • Advocates for community and legislative priorities that benefit the organization.
  • Performs other duties assigned by the Board.

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree; a Master’s Level or higher advanced degree is preferred.
  • Five (5) or more years of progressive management experience, preferably in health and human services and/or nonprofit management.
  • Experience with management of a multisite organization is preferred.
  • Experience in Board development, fundraising, marketing/branding, and fiscal management is required.
  • A financially savvy and politically astute leader with the ability to set clear priorities, delegate, and direct investments in people and systems. Solid analytical, organizational and problem solving skills that support and enable sound decision making.
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and to negotiate and achieve consensus among differing opinions.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills. Experience and proclivity to be a confident, outgoing spokesperson, relationship-builder and fundraiser.
  • Successful track record of recruiting and retaining a strong leadership team.
  • Strong commitment to life-long learning and the professional development of staff.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly required to speak and hear, sit, stand, walk, reach and use hands.
  • Ability to read computer screens for an extended period of time.
  • Ability to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
  • Ability to travel, as needed. Valid driver’s license is required.

Work Environment:

  • Professional and deadline-oriented environment in office and remote settings.
  • Interaction with Board, staff, persons served, parents/guardians, donors and community members.
